Main Routes to Gerlach
Normal Route (Velická Próba)
This is the most popular and accessible route. We start at Sliezsky Dom, continue through Velická Valley, and climb up the Velická Próba until we reach the Gerlach Basin. From there, a scenic traverse takes us directly to the summit. Descent: via the Batizovský couloir.
Gipsy’s Ferrata (Gerlachovská Próba)
A technical route suitable for experienced hikers. Passes through Gerlach Saddle with exposed rocky sections for an adventurous climb.
Descent: same as the Normal Route.
Martinovka Ridge Route
An airy ridge route, ideal for strong climbers who enjoy technical terrain and exposure.
Winter Ascent (Batizovská Próba)
Winter climbs follow the Batizovská Valley, providing a real high-mountain challenge in snowy conditions.
All routes are guided by UIAGM / IFMGA-certified mountain guides for maximum safety.
Who Is the Gerlach Ascent For?
Gerlach is not a standard hike. You need:
- Solid fitness
- Confidence on rocky terrain
- Ability to handle long, steep sections

These hikes help build endurance needed for climbing Gerlachovsky peak and familiarize with Tatra terrain.
How Long Does the Gerlach Ascent Take?
Depending on route, group experience, and weather: 6–10 hours including ascent and descent.

Gerlach is a technical alpine climb:
